Is your computer slower now than ever before?
3 Easy Steps to a Clean and Fast PC
Your computer is dragging through another day, bogged down by all the clutter left behind from deleted files and programs. There are tons of unnecessary files that just sit there, weighing down on your PC's performance. When programs install themselves they may tell your computer to run them as soon as it is turned on. Eventually your computer has so much to do that it doesn't have time, or resources, to behave as you expect it to.
The most common symptoms include; programs that take way too long to launch, documents and applications that suddenly close or quit. Computers constantly restarting themselves, system lags or freezes unexpectedly, constant crashes that may harm your computer, unexplained system error warnings and overall poor computer power and performance. Most people will say their PC is broken, that it needs repairs or that they need a new computer.
You know better: your computer is not broken or too old. It just needs a little housekeeping to get it working like it used to. Follow the three quick and simple steps to a clean and fast PC.
Step 1. Tidy up your computer.
Disk Defragmenter reorganizes your PC.
Disk fragmentation occurs when broken pieces of files get left on your disk. Files are constantly being written, deleted, and saved, so fragmentation is a natural occurrence. When these file fragments are spread out over several locations, your computer takes longer to read and write information. In most cases the effects of fragmentation are more widespread: Slow performance, long boot times, random crashes and freeze-ups -even a complete inability to boot up at all. Users mistakenly blame these problems on various causes, when disk fragmentation is often the real culprit.
Use disk defragmenter to clean up your computer's hard drive and therefore make your programs
and files much easier and faster to access. As you probably know, this utility is already installed in your computer. A hard drive should be defragmented once a month as a good method of preventative maintenance.
When Disk Defragmenter first opens you'll see a list of the hard drives displayed at the top of the screen. The Estimated Disk Usage Before Defragmentation and Estimated Disk Usage After Defragmentation will be blank until a drive is selected and the Analyze button is clicked. Next click the Defragment button.
After the defragmentation process completes, clicking the View Report button will bring up the Defragmentation Report. Notice that Total Fragmented Files and Total Excess Fragments have been reduced to zero (0) and the Average Fragments Per File is now 1.00, indicating most or all of the files are contiguous. In addition, there are no files listed that did not defragment.
Congratulations, you are one step closer to achieving the clean and fast computer you have always dreamt of. You are not done, so before your PC jumps up and hugs you, make sure you learn about steps 2 and 3.
